Jim was taking advantage of the cooler mornings to get outside and mow the lawn today. He caught me while taking a quick break to cool down after finishing the front lawn, before starting the back. While sitting on the patio, I asked Jim if he had plans to visit Mom today, or if he was going to try and avoid it today as this was one of the 2 days a week Jim had wanted to call his own upon retirement (Thursdays & Fridays). Jim gave me a look that showed he'd not completely ruled out a visit. He picked up his phone and started up the video conferencing tool, "Duo" to call Mom. There was no answer. He tried again. Still none. I mentioned that perhaps she'd just left her cellphone in the bedroom and it would be better to try her house phone. With that, she answered on the 1st ring: "My cellphone's in my purse. I was just getting ready to leave. What's up?" Jim asked where are you going? "Ummm.. That place. I don't know...Tree". Apparently, Dollar Tree, but she couldn't think of it. Jim asked what are you going for? What do you need? "Ummm... I don't know. But I'm fine. Don't worry". Jim told her "I'm not happy with you driving after having just spent the last couple days feeling doppy!" But again, her reply was that she was fine. Don't worry. Jim told her be sure to have others phone numbers ready if she needs help, because he was currently cutting the lawn, and wouldn't be able to hear the phone. Her response was to ask if I was in the house - because she would call me. Jim told her no, Joe would be out front edging the lawn. So again, her answer was that she was okay. Don't worry!
We had brought her some dinner and visited yesterday evening after spending some time together for ourselves, for the first time in a very long time, at Greenfield Village. We asked her how her day went and she told us about having received a call from Amy and all the updates going on with our cousins' lives. But Mom never mentioned having heard anything, or getting a visit from any of her own kids. We had dinner, watched Wheel of Fortune with her, and had a coffee before leaving. She was obviously still doppy on her feet, and had to be repeatedly reminded to use her cane or walker, both which were nearby but she continually forgot she should use!
